Furnace Maintenance Services

Furnace maintenance is the routine servicing of your heating system to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance all winter long. At SumZero, we specialize in expert furnace maintenance across Massachusetts to help you avoid costly breakdowns, lower energy bills, and extend the life of your system.

Annual Furnace Maintenance for Reliable Winter Comfort

When cold weather hits Massachusetts, your furnace becomes your home's best defense. Scheduling annual furnace maintenance ensures that your heating system runs safely, efficiently, and without unexpected surprises. At SumZero, we provide thorough checkups that keep your system in top shape—so you stay warm without high repair bills or energy costs.

How Often to Service Furnace

Experts recommend scheduling furnace maintenance at least once a year, ideally in the fall before peak heating season. This helps:

  • Catch problems early before they become pricey repairs
  • Maximize energy efficiency through system cleaning and tune-up
  • Extend the lifespan of your furnace
"Neglecting annual furnace maintenance can reduce efficiency by up to 30%, leading to higher energy bills and early system failure."

Tune-Up Checklist

A professional furnace tune-up typically includes:

  • Inspecting burners, blower motor, and igniter
  • Checking for gas and carbon monoxide leaks
  • Lubricating moving parts to reduce wear
  • Testing system controls for safety
  • Cleaning furnace filter for better airflow

These steps not only improve operation but also offer peace of mind during every cold snap.

Home Furnace Maintenance Tips for Massachusetts Winters

Massachusetts winters can be especially demanding on heating systems. Taking simple steps between annual visits helps your furnace work smarter, not harder.

Heating Maintenance Tips

To support system health year-round:

  • Change your furnace filter every 1–3 months
  • Keep vents and returns free of dust and obstructions
  • Seal any drafts near doors and windows
  • Schedule a professional HVAC inspection yearly

A maintained furnace runs smoother, heats faster, and uses less energy—keeping your bills lower even when the temperature drops.

What Local Homeowners Are Saying

See how SumZero has helped local homeowners stay comfortable year-round with energy-efficient heat pump solutions.

Let me start by saying that the actual work that was performed by the people on site was great. Totally spot-on. They were friendly, careful, clean, considerate, and left a nice looking install when finished. The system operates very nicely, keeping my house warm with no need to run the oil heat. The sales process was very smooth. The salesman, Paul, was very knowledgable, honest, didn't try to push anything, and was very patient with all the many questions that I had to help me understand the ins and outs of heat pump heating. I'm confident that the system I bought is the right one for my home. While I would give the actual installed system a five star review, I had to take a star off due to the difficulty I had around getting my rebate. My install was performed not long after the new year when the MA rebate options were in flux (though now the 2022 rebates are set). Since the new rebates were very likely to be larger than the old for my setup, I wanted to make sure I got the new. Despite trying several times pre- and post-install to make sure the proper rebate request was filed, this didn't happen. I only discovered the old amount was requested by looking at a public site that tracks rebate requests. But here's where the good news is- even a month or two later once one of the owners of SumZero did find out about this issue, he called me personally and gave me his guarantee that they'd make it right since they realized they dropped the ball on it. They're refiling the rebate request, and in the mean time, have sent me a check for the difference (more than $3,000) so I don't have to wait for the rebate to be processed. The owner also assured me this is something they'll be paying closer attention to to make sure it doesn't happen again with future customers.
