These systems provide reliable zoned heating and cooling, allowing you to maintain a comfortable temperature in any season—without high energy costs.

Ductless Mini Split System: Custom Comfort for Older and Newer Homes

Ideal for Homes Without Existing Ductwork

Older homes in Franklin, especially historic Colonial and Victorian styles, often lack ductwork. Installing conventional HVAC systems in these spaces can be expensive and invasive. A ductless mini split system eliminates that barrier entirely.

Wall-mounted units, especially a wall mounted air handler, can blend seamlessly into your living space without compromising aesthetics or structural integrity.

Flexible and Scalable for Home Additions and Renovations

Are you adding a home office, finishing a basement, or converting a sunroom? A dual zone mini split or multi-zone system is an ideal solution to bring precision control to new or hard-to-reach areas of your home without altering your entire HVAC system. It’s an affordable and low-impact way to increase your home's usable space year-round.

Integration with Smart Home Systems

Today’s Energy Star mini split systems are smarter than ever. Enjoy advanced thermostat integrations, smartphone-controlled climate settings, and adaptive performance during peak and non-peak hours—features that are especially valuable for tech-savvy Franklin homeowners.

Mini Split Heat Pump: Year-Round Performance and Energy Savings

How Mini Split Heat Pumps Work

mini split heat pump functions by transferring heat—not generating it. That means you get both energy-efficient heating in the winter and reliable cooling in the summer. In the colder months, these units extract heat from outside air (even in freezing temps) and bring it indoors. In the warmer months, they reverse direction to cool your home.

Because they pull rather than create heat, Energy Star mini split systems can reduce annual energy bills by 30% or more compared to conventional electric heating.

Quiet and Unobtrusive Operation

Many Franklin homeowners think powerful heating and cooling must come with noise. But Mitsubishi mini split models and similar systems run whisper-quiet, making them a perfect solution for bedrooms, nurseries, or home offices.

Wall-mounted indoor units—including the popular wall mounted air handler style—blend into your space without detracting from décor, contributing to long-term comfort without disruption.

Get Ahead of Rising Energy Costs

Electric rates in Massachusetts are among the higher in the country. With utility bills rising and extreme weather becoming more common, switching to a mini split heat pump allows you to stabilize and lower your long-term energy expenses.

Through partnerships like Mass Save, SumZero Energy Systems can help you:

  • Identify eligible models, including Energy Star mini split and high-SEER rated systems
  • Apply for rebates and zero-interest financing
  • Ensure your system is properly sized for your home for maximum performance

What Local Homeowners Are Saying

See how SumZero has helped local homeowners stay comfortable year-round with energy-efficient heat pump solutions.

... watching contractors work on your house did you ever think- "wow these folks sure work like they work on their own homes?".... No? Sarcastic much? Wishful thinking? I thought so too. We all dread dealing with contractors as we know most of them are.... Dreadful to deal with. Facts. So that is how I felt too when I decided to switch my house from oil heat to electric. Due to the size of the house It was going to be a large project involving a complex setup of multiple condensers, air handlers and ceiling cassettes. I had in mind what I wanted, so I needed a contractor to look at my design and make changes as needed, provide input based on experience and execute it. The vendor would need to understand modern cold weather heat pump solutions and installations in a complex near- commercial environment. They also would need to understand integration with the heavily automated existing controls in my house. Like a good citizen I solicited several well- established HVAC vendors to provide me with quotes. I actually spent an hour or more with each one showing and explaining my property and current set up. All nine of the contractors said they can do it and will provide quotes. I got back... 3 quotes. But it wasn't a problem as I knew which vendor I will go with based on my interactions with them price notwithstanding. Ilija from Sumzero was the only guy that was technical enough and had sufficient knowledge to understand what the project involved and to make welcome changes to the specs and equipment based on load calculations. The installation went as planned. The team led by Paul showed up on time every day and worked extra hours to finish the job in a week. Remember the opening statement about contractors working like they work on their own home... This was how it looked and felt when I watched them work. No corners were cut and when I asked for a bit more here and there I was accommodated without any questions. Marcelo (lead tech) and the team worked hard and provided outstanding results. The last day presented a challenge where my existing controls needed to be integrated with the new controls. Daniel is their controls guy and our initial conversation was actually funny. I started to explain how I want the integration to work and Daniel interrupted me midway and finished my thoughts. Yeah- he is that good. Overall, I believe that companies like Sumzero are very very rare in the field. Knowledge, expertise, work ethics, communications with customer- it is all done well. So if you have an HVAC project regardless of its complexity- you should give them a call. You will not be disappointed. My 2 cents
